Rob Smith apologises for AFC Telford defeat
AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith has apologised to the club's supporters after his team's poor performance saw them side swept aside 3-0 by Gloucester City in National League North.
The defeat marks two losses on the road in a row for the Bucks, which left Smith asking what has happened to his team since they won against Kidderminster Harriers last Tuesday.
He said: "I want to apologise to the supporters. They were having a go at me at the end of the game and I can't agree more with them.
"It was a poor performance. You wouldn't believe that was the same team that beat Kidderminster Harriers seven days ago, that's what we were talking about in the changing room after the game.
"The players just totally lost their confidence, but more than that they are not showing any spirit at the moment.
"Everybody who knows me knows I have got pretty upset over that performance more than anyone, and over Saturday (the loss at Gainsborough Trinity) as well, so I'll apologise to the supporters for that.
"Seven days ago we were patting one another on the back after a good performance against Kidderminster Harriers.
"We are looking at the performance and thinking what has happened? I can't put my finger on it.
"Rest assured I'll do everything I can to get it right."
Smith admitted the side are now in a 'hole' and said it is up to his players to turn the results around.
He was left ruing the ''ack of desire''in his side.
"Those players who perform like that have to drag us out of it, because we are in a hole at the moment," said Smith.
"Three or four weeks ago we weren't conceding goals like that.
"That was the difference, they had desire in that team and we haven't got any at the moment."
The next game for Telford will see them take on Worcester City in the FA Cup on Saturday.
"I think that will be the biggest game of the season," he added.
