Gianluca Havern tips AFC Telford to improve
Luca Havern is happy with AFC Telford United's work at the back and believes they will only continue to improve.
A big talker on the pitch, skipper Havern has been a hit with the fans since his arrival from Altrincham over the summer.
The backline have been in decent form this season, conceding just 13 goals in 12 National League North games and keeping five clean sheets – six counting the FA Cup second qualifying round 0-0 draw at Worcester City.
And on the form of himself and his fellow defenders, Havern said: "I am really enjoying it.
"We have got five or six clean sheets so far.
"We are building up good partnerships in defence and developing an understanding all of the time as a unit.
"I am feeling good in myself – fit and sharp.
"Now hopefully we can start putting some results together."
Telford's problem has not been in defence, but in finding the net at the other end of the park.
They have netted just nine times across all competitions and no player has more than two goals to his name so far.
The Bucks know they need to get among the goals on a consistent basis and put an end to their current three-game winless run in National League North.
Havern is aware of the issue, knowing the trick is to retain that defensive meanness but combine it with more up front.
"We want to be solid, we want to be hard to beat, but we are looking to create more going forward and score more goals," he said.
"You cannot put it down to one thing but I think as long as we work hard, we will be okay.
"We need to be working harder as it has not been going our way – work all over the pitch to make sure we start getting more goals.
"The harder we work at it, the sooner it will come.
"It's just a case of continuing to give it our all and it will come off for us."
After a weekend without a game, Telford make the trip to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday.
"We haven't picked up an away win so of course we want to change that and it would be nice to get our first at Bradford Park Avenue," added Havern.
"It's a winnable game and training this week will be geared towards that.
"We are all really focused on the game."
