AFC Telford United forward Connor McCarthy eager to repay boss
Connor McCarthy is desperate to repay the faith shown in him by AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith and assistant Larry Chambers with goals.
A livewire up front, McCarthy was a big hit with the Bucks faithful across two loan spells from Southport last season, scoring nine goals.
He was signed on a permanent deal last month but has not found the net in the three games since his return.
Ahead of the trip to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday, McCarthy said: "I have got a figure in my head in terms of how many goals I want to get.
"I will take it game by game but I want to be hitting double figures, at least.
"It is not all about scoring goals myself though, I need to be providing them too."
On his return to the club, McCarthy added: "Rob and Larry played a big part in me coming back here, to be honest.
"They helped me out in bringing me here and now I need to start helping them out with some goals."
"The fans have been fantastic as well. I was buzzing with the reception I got when I came back and I couldn't have asked for any more from them.
"Even when I wasn't here, I had people asking about me on social media and that was really nice to see.
"There is no better feeling than scoring goals and I want to do it for the coaches and for the fans."
Telford have failed to find the net in five of their 12 games so far in the National League North. At the other end, they have kept five clean sheets.
McCarthy wants to take the pressure off the defenders and added: "I reckon we will definitely start to pick up. We are creating chances but we just haven't been putting them away.
"Everyone, collectively as a unit, needs to be scoring more goals. We are looking very strong at the back so we need to be taking pressure off them.
"Once we get started, that will be it and we will start scoring regularly."
Meanwhile, the Bucks have successfully brought forward a league match in order to avoid another blank weekend.
They were originally set to take on Brackley Town at New Bucks Head on Saturday, October 15 but the fixture will be played at a later date due to the Saints' progression in the FA Cup.
Telford will play a National League North fixture on that date though, against FC United of Manchester at home (3pm). The clash has been brought forward from Saturday, February 4 2017 due to both teams no longer being in the FA Cup.
