The club finds itself in a precarious position on and off the pitch – they are 19th in the National League North table after 13 games, and need to raise £25,000 by the end of this month.

The Bucks take on FC United of Manchester, who are known for their good travelling support, at New Bucks Head on Saturday and Smith is hoping for a big crowd.

"In fairness, with the statement now being released, it is more important than ever for the fans to get behind us," he said.

"We are in need of a win and anything that can be done to help is welcome and is a boost for us.

"I know FC United will probably bring a good amount of fans down so hopefully it will be a packed crowd at the Bucks Head, which will get behind us and cheer us to victory."

The Bucks drew 1-1 at Bradford Park Avenue – the division's bottom club – last weekend.

The side has now gone more than a month without a victory – the 1-0 triumph over Kidderminster Harriers on September 6 was their last.

Smith has pointed towards the league table and insists a lot can change with a win or two.

"The key is getting a good result on Saturday," he said.

"You look at the league table and you can go 14th or 15th in the table – above FC United – and then things are looking better for us."

On the current situation off the pitch, Smith said: "I have just got to concentrate on the football and getting the best out of the players.

"This league is hard enough without anything else going on.

"The statement has been released – it is what it is – I just have to focus on the football, picking up results and moving up the table."

Smith acknowledges he has to make the most of what is at is disposal.

The club has used the loan market to their advantage, bringing in young talents such as Jordan Sangha from Walsall and Wolves pair Bradley Reid and Ben O'Hanlon.

Due to the financial constraints, any deals would now have to be on a 'one in, one out' basis.

"We have got a small squad and we all need to stick together," added Smith.

"Anything in terms of players would have to be one in, one out so we will all work hard to turn it around."
