Rob Smith sure Telford will beat the blues

The Bucks moved up to 14th in the National League North table with a 1-0 much-needed win against FC United of Manchester at the New Bucks Head on Saturday.

Buckets were present at the ground for fans to make cash donations, with the 1,706 on hand doing their part to raise around £2,500.

The club needs to raise £25,000 by the end of the month, and the same amount for November.

On the win, Smith said: "It has been difficult to take the attention away from everything else that has been going on and we tried to put the focus back on the players.

"The club deserved a win and I thought there was a bit of that old spirit there.

"With the crowd, who can say that does not help?

"With 1,700 shouting you on like that, it spurs you on even when you are tired.

"I have got a player out there in Paul McCone who has not played for 18 months and he looked like he had never been out of the side."

Connor McCarthy struck inside the 66th minute, which was enough to see Telford through to claim the three points.

Smith praised the fans for their efforts since the club statement detailing their financial troubles was released last Tuesday, and has highlighted the need for good attendances on a consistent basis.

"We need the numbers. If we can get a 1,700-strong crowd every week, it's a different story here at the club," he said.

"That extra 700 is big money to us and we need the support.

"In return, we have got to repay the supporters with performances.

"The more people that come through the gate; the more I can strengthen the squad; the better we get.

"As long as people keep coming through the gate, we will give everything we have got."

When asked if the club will still be in existence in the months to come, Smith added: "There is absolutely no doubt about it.

"You can see the spirit around this place.

"I am sure there are things in place to make it happen and I am more than confident we will still be here – bigger and stronger."
