Rob Smith: AFC Telford squad depth a problem

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith has admitted the lack of squad depth is a 'problem' which needs addressing.

The Bucks fell to a 2-0 defeat against Class of '92-owned Salford City at the New Bucks Head on Saturday.

James Hurst was sent off after picking up two bookings and the boss admits they could be short on numbers for the visit of Boston United this weekend.

He is hoping something can be done in the way of bringing new faces in, despite the club's financial difficulties.

"It is a big game for us now coming up. The question mark is whether we are going to have enough bodies or not – that is the problem," said Smith.

"We have definitely got one suspension and I am not sure whether Ben Bailey will be suspended as well.

"We have got a few injuries and we have literally got 15 players so somewhere along the line, as a club, we have got to do something.

"We are getting to the stage where we are that short – we need players in."

Smith was pleased with the performance against Salford and praised the 'togetherness' of the side, especially when they were a man down.

"We are down to the bones but there is a definite togetherness there," he said.

"I think that showed against Salford and even when we were down to 10 men we were having a real go at the end.

Dave Hibbert, who missed the two games prior through a hamstring injury, came on for the final 15 minutes against the Ammies.

Josh Wilson has been hampered recently with a back injury and was included on the bench against Salford but Smith conceded he 'was not right' to play.

Darren Campion, who recently signed for Sutton Coldfield Town on a dual registration dual, was also in the squad.

On Wilson and Campion, Smith added: "I think Josh will be fit for Saturday. He trained but he was not right (for the Salford game).

"Darren was going to go and get games for Sutton but already we are short of numbers.

"We had to get him back so that is where we are at.

"Camps will not let us down but we need to count the numbers up this week and see what we have got."
