Paul McCone praises 'amazing' AFC Telford support after financial success

AFC Telford United defender Paul McCone has praised the 'amazing' support as the Bucks hit their financial target for the close of October.

The club released a statement announcing their worrying financial state last month – revealing that £25,000 needed to be raised by the end of October and the same in November.

Support from members of the public and rival football supporters helped the Bucks reach their target last month and McCone – a defender who paid his way through physiotherapy after recent injury hell – heaped praise onto those to have supported and revealed the club's gratitude.

"I don't know how they've done it (raised the money), but we're all so thankful they have," he said.

"All of a sudden it came out that 25 grand had to be raised and everyone's done very well.

"You could say it sums up the non-league community. I know FC United of Manchester would've supported us when they came and I'm sure Salford did too.

"It's amazing that clubs like Telford can have such problems but it just shows what money means to clubs like ourselves."

The Bucks' first team coach Steve Wynn has stepped down from his role due to work commitments.

Wynn worked with boss Rob Smith and assistant Larry Chambers in spells at Telford, Hednesford Town and Willenhall Town.
