AFC Telford falling significantly short of financial target

AFC Telford United have revealed the club are falling significantly short in raising the required amount of income by the end of November.

After huge home clashes against FC United of Manchester and Salford City helped raise significant interest and much-needed funds, the Bucks were able to secure £25,000 by the end of October.

But with the same process required for November, progress has been 'significantly' slower and included funds raised from the visit of Boston United and website takings - the Bucks have raised just £247.

Telford are keen to drum up significant interest for Saturday's visit of high-profile National League North outfit Darlington 1883 - themselves a phoenix club of former Football League side Darlington FC.

A boosted attendance of 1,706 against FC United on October 15 played a big part in helping Telford reach their October mark.

A crowd of 1,841 then descended on the New Bucks Head at the end of the month as interest thrived.

But a significant drop of just 1,021 were present for the visit of Boston. The club admitted they did not predict the drop in crowd.

A Bucks statement said: "November has been considerably slower and we have raised a very small sum of incremental income just £247, this arising from donations at the Boston game and this is included in the donations counter on our website.

"Thank you to all who made a donation at the Boston game. Our tremendous attendances for both the FCUM and Salford City games gave us the very good month of October.

"We anticipated a fall in attendance for the Boston game, but the fall to 1021 (compared with the Chorley attendance of 1030) was a faster fall to the 1000 level than we had anticipated and takings were almost exactly identical to the Chorley game, very marginally less in fact, so the Boston game did not contribute towards the November incremental income target, other than the donations stated above, which we were grateful for."

Meanwhile, Telford's board have completed their consultations in the proposed issue of new shares in the football club and are hopeful to issue these by November 19 - with interest from potential investors and supporters described as 'very good'.
