Rob Smith: Not too many complaints following AFC Telford's FA Trophy draw

AFC Telford boss Rob Smith says he is pleased to be facing lower league opposition in the FA Trophy – but admitted he would have preferred a home tie.

The Bucks will travel to take on either Ramsbottom United or Redditch United in the third qualifying round with those two sides meeting tonight.

Ramsbottom currently ply their trade two divisions lower than Smith's men in Evo-Stik First Divison North. Redditch are just one tier below in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Telford are currently embroiled in financial difficulties with the club needing to raise £25,000 by the end of the month.

And with the winner of the third qualifying round netting £4,000 in prize money, Smith knows the FA Trophy is important for the club.

"We were desperate for a home draw but if it's going to be away it's good that it's against lower league opposition," said Smith, whose men are in National League North action at home to Darlington on Saturday.

"We can't have too many complaints and we all understand how important this competition is.

"There is significant prize money available in both the FA Cup and the FA Trophy and in the FA Cup we fell at the first hurdle.

"We will prepare properly to make sure have we have every chance of winning the game."

The Bucks suffered stoppage time league heartbreak on Saturday as Worcester scored a late winner in a 2-1 defeat for Smith's side.
