'Wise' Dave Hibbert happy with AFC telford win
AFC Telford United striker Dave Hibbert has admitted to being a 'little bit wise' as visiting goalkeeper Peter Jameson was dismissed in the 2-0 home win against Darlington.
Hibbert managed to win a penalty in the 66th minute of the National League North clash at the New Bucks Head.
The 30-year-old forward attempted to steal the ball away from Jameson, who appeared to have one hand on the ball, inside the penalty area.
After getting both hands on the ball, Jameson shoved his gloves into the face of Hibbert, who went down, and a spot-kick was given.
Jameson was sent off, Josh Wilson scored the penalty and Bradley Reid added a second within 10 minutes.
On the incident, Hibbert said: "I am entitled to go for the ball there so I have tried to nick it out of his hand and he's obviously reacted.
"You can't do it (raise your arms) and we have come away with the win, which is what we wanted.
"I just want to get three points for the club and if that means using your head a little bit and being a little bit wise, then so be it."
On whether there was any doubt over whether Jameson would be sent off due to the amount of time taken by referee Duncan Bourne, Hibbert said: "I don't know to be honest as I was sort of told to stay down.
"It's one of them, you can't react in that way.
"I was entitled to go for the ball as he had one hand on the ball. Why not go for it?"
Hibbert, who used to play for Shrewsbury, pointed towards the 4-3-3 system implemented and how it was key to the victory.
"It's a huge win. We played well at Worcester without getting the little breaks," he said.
"On Saturday we looked solid after a good week of training, working on a good shape and I thought we looked really solid.
"We went back to a 4-3-3 and it's hard work as a striker because you are splitting at times.
"It has built a solid base for us though and I thought we thoroughly deserved the win."
He added: "Darlington are a good side so it just shows when we are at it, and we have that solid base, we are not far away from the top teams.
"I thought we were the better team overall, even before the sending off I thought we were in control.
"They have got some good quality but I fancied us going forward and we were deserving of the win.
"We have got to have high standards and we were a lot more professional."
