AFC Telford hoping for home trophy tie to boost finances

AFC Telford United are hoping that a home tie in today's FA Trophy first round draw can boost the cash-strapped club's coffers.

Bucks assistant Larry Chambers lauded the professional display from Rob Smith's side as Telford earned progression in the competition via a 2-0 success at Ramsbottom United, who operate two tiers below.

Telford pocketed £4,000 from the weekend's victory, with a further £5,000 at stake for the winners of the next stage, with fixtures to be played on the weekend of December 10.

Chambers hopes the draw plays kindly on the Bucks in drawing high-profile opposition to the New Bucks Head. Sides from non-league's top tier – the National League – enter the competition at this stage.

The club are still in the progress of raising essential funds after revealing £25,000 needed to be collected by the end of both October and November.

"We want a home tie in the next round, there's a lot of strong sides, and all you can really ask for is a home tie," said the Bucks No.2.

"But we are not looking at teams and saying 'we want that'."

"A lot of games were called off on Saturday, so we were glad to get it out of the way and be in the hat for today's draw."

Telford crashed out of the FA Cup at the first possible hurdle, losing a second qualifying round replay with Worcester City.
