Tom Watkins: Just keep it going Tigers

Tigers coach Tom Watkins will emphasise the importance of momentum to his men, ahead of this weekend's games against Swindon Wildcats and Guildford Flames.

Telford have lost just one of their last seven matches – despite undergoing a restructuring of their squad.

A string of players have left in recent weeks, but Watkins' men have dug in as they defend their position at the top of the English Premier League.

Their run of form has left them eight points clear at the top of the EPL, albeit with second-placed Milton Keynes having two games in hand.

And following Wednesday night's 6-3 win over Sheffield Steeldogs, Watkins is determined to retain the momentum generated by that result.

He said: "It's always good for a team to have that run of results and the confidence that winning brings.

"Of course it's an unsettled side at the moment, so winning certainly makes the dressing room a happier place to come.

"It means you go into games with a more upbeat feeling around the squad."

Clearance

Those changes to the Tigers squad have seen former Czech Republic international forward Lubomir Korhon fly into Shropshire this week.

Korhon is set to make his debut over the weekend, pending the clearance of paperwork.

But both Swindon and Guildford have also undergone changes in recent weeks – ironically with former Tigers players.

Phil Hill has now linked up with Swindon while Michal Satek has signed for Guildford.

Watkins added: "Obviously, playing a side with a changed squad makes us unsure of what their line-up will look like and how we can set up against them.

"Swindon especially have lost a few players to GB Under-20s, so with both teams it will mean a lot of decisions being made during the game."

Telford are still searching for a back-up netminder to Sam Gospel, with 17-year-old Ted Thompson having filled the role against Basingstoke and Sheffield.

The Tigers travel to Swindon Wildcats this evening (5.45pm), before hosting Guildford Flames at Telford Ice Rink tomorrow (6pm).
