Paul McCone eager to make the most of AFC Telford's break

Paul McCone is looking for AFC Telford to make the most of a free week ahead of the trip to Halifax Town.

The Bucks were scheduled to be facing Brackley in a home National League North fixture tonight but it has been postponed due to The Saints playing a FA Trophy first-round replay against AFC Fylde.

The postponement means Rob Smith's charges will be training tonight instead and can talk over their plans for Halifax.

Centre-half McCone sees that as a positive after a 4-0 loss at Kidderminster Harriers at the weekend.

"I think we have to take it as a good chance to get some recovery and work on what we need to work on to beat Halifax," he said.

"At least we now have two good training sessions to work on that.

"That's what we need to look forward to doing and nail down jobs so we know what we are doing and when we are doing it, rather than going in with no game-plan.

"We did go in with a game-plan at Kidderminster but we couldn't pull it off – it is one of those situations."

The postponement also means Telford's next home fixture is against Alfreton Town on Boxing Day – and their last game at the New Bucks Head was on November 19 against Darlington.

The Bucks have struggled on the road this season, picking up just two wins in all competitions.

When asked if anybody can put their finger on why it is going right when away from home, McCone said: "No, I don't know what it is.

"It is a shame they keep panning out the way they do. It's easy to say because we are playing away, that's how it is going to be.

"Obviously, it does potentially change the way you play but it shouldn't do.

"We should be going into every game the same – whether it is at home or away. Unfortunately at Kidderminster we could not put our game-plan into action."

On Saturday's performance, the former Stourbridge man added: "A full-time team, be it or not, we handed them some easy goals and that is what cost us.

"Going in at half-time 2-0 down, you still have an impetus to come out with a bit of momentum and a bit of fight and you never know what can happen.

"We did that but unfortunately we couldn't capitalise. Then, all of a sudden, we go a third goal down and a fourth goal down.

"You're chasing shadows and then everybody starts to put their heads down."
