Rob Smith hoping to extend John-Paul Kissock loan spell at AFC Telford

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith is hoping to extend the loan of John-Paul Kissock from Ebbsfleet United.

The 26-year-old midfielder joined the Bucks on a six-week deal from the National League South outfit – and the last game of that agreement is the Boxing Day clash with Alfreton Town at the New Bucks Head.

Smith has been pleased by the contribution of the Everton youth product and said: "We will speak to Ebbsfleet to see how that it is.

"I think John is keen on staying here with us for a little longer, so we will have some communication with Ebbsfleet later this week to find out and see where the ground lies."

If Kissock's loan is not extended, Telford will be left short in terms of midfield options.

Jonathan Royle (groin) is a doubt for the Alfreton game, leaving vice-captain Jack Rea, 19-year-old Joe Fitzpatrick and Josh Wilson, who much prefers to play as a centre-forward.

Kissock's move from Ebbsfleet was to spend more time near his Liverpool home and Telford swooped to beat off competition from a number of other clubs.

He represented England at both under-16 and under-18 level while with the Toffees.

After being released by the club, Kissock impressed in the lower reaches until he was snapped up by former Bucks boss Liam Watson, then of Southport, in 2010.

Spells at Luton and Macclesfield followed, where he proved a favourite with supporters due to his silky ability on the ball and was even dubbed the 'non-league Lionel Messi'.

He also played for Whitehawk before signing for Ebbsfleet.

Kissock has made five appearances, all from the start, for Telford and earned the man of the match award in his debut – the 2-0 National league North win against Darlington on November 19.

Although he has failed to find the net, Kissock has impressed with his silky ability on the ball as well as his tenacious efforts when out of possession. In terms of another loan player, Smith confirmed Joe Kearns has returned to parent club Southport. The 20-year-old defender, who came through the ranks at Crewe Alexandra, made three appearances for the Bucks – two starts.
