Telford's Luca Havern: I should've known better

The centre-half was given his marching orders after picking up two yellow cards in the 1-1 draw and will miss the visit of Curzon Ashton on Saturday.

On how he felt about the dismissal, with the Bucks 1-0 up at the time, the 28-year-old said: "I haven't seen it back but before the sending off we were cruising.

"We were by far the better side in the first half, we were well on course for three points. My sending off is what changed the game.

"Of course, you don't mean to get sent off but I should have known better and not committed to the second challenge having already been on a yellow.

"I take full responsibility for the sending off."

Havern's fellow centre-half Ben Bailey is also suspended for the Curzon Ashton game, and will miss the game against Brackley Town too.

That leaves Paul McCone as the only recognised centre-half for this weekend and Havern said: "It is unfortunate and it comes at a bad time for us.

"I am sure the gaffer (Rob Smith) and (assistant) Larry Chambers will be working hard as always to get something sorted out. I'm not sure what they'll do but Macca is one of the best defenders in this league."

The Bucks had five new faces involved against Gainsborough – Eddie Jones, Luke Higham, Henry Cameron, Lewis Hayden and Tony Donaldson.

Jones, who scored the Bucks' goal, and Higham started and Cameron came off the bench, while Hayden and Donaldson were the two substitutes not used.

The Bucks fielded all five new signings in a behind-closed-doors home friendly with Birmingham City U23s last night – and took a look at a defender.

But it was a City trialist who scored the only goal of a competitive match, beating Bucks keeper James Montgomery two minutes from time.

Havern, who has made 23 appearances in the National League North this season for Telford, spoke of the positive effect the new players have had and added: "Credit to the new lads, Eddie was really getting involved in midfield and got his goal.

"Luke was solid as well and with the new lads coming in, people are pushing for their places and that is only a good thing. There has been some sharp training sessions over the last couple of weeks."
