Rob Smith delighted at Telford's Matt Urwin capture

AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith is delighted to have completed the signing of Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Matt Urwin on loan until the end of the season.

The Bucks had shot-stopper James Montgomery leave this week to join National League side Gateshead, and have moved swiftly to bring in 23-year-old Urwin.

Telford are understood to have been weighing up a few options, and Smith said: "He was at Fylde last season. He played against us at our place so he is someone we have come across before.

"He has experience of the National League North, which is good, and we thought he was the best option around for us at the moment."

Urwin joined Fleetwood last summer from AFC Fylde, where he was part of the side that reached the FA Cup first round and lost to North Ferriby United in the National League North play-offs last season.

He began his career at Blackburn Rovers and also had a spell at Bradford City, where he made one substitute appearance. Urwin is set to be involved as Telford face Gloucester City at the New Bucks Head on

Saturday and his signing means Telford now have six players in on a temporary basis in the ranks.

John-Paul Kissock, Elliot Hodge, Luke Higham, Henry Cameron and Tony Donaldson are already on loan at the Bucks – and only five can feature in a matchday squad.

"It leaves us with one more loan player and one of those would have to not be on the team sheet," said Smith.

"Tony and the two Blackpool lads' (Higham and Cameron) loans are up after the weekend so it is only a problem for the Gloucester game on Saturday. It is just the way it is, someone will have to miss out as a keeper is our priority of course."

Meanwhile, Telford won 4-2 in a friendly against Market Drayton Town at Lilleshall National Sports Centre on Tuesday night. Donaldson, Connor McCarthy, Dave Hibbert and youth team striker Benji Robinson scored for the Bucks.
