AFC Telford United's Joe Fitzpatrick has Football League potential, says Rob Smith

The 19-year-old central midfielder recently arrived at the Bucks for a second spell, having found game time hard to come by at National League North rivals Boston United.

He has played three games since returning and impressed hugely on his first game back at the New Bucks Head as Telford beat Worcester City 1-0 on Saturday.

Smith said: "He's very similar to two players I had at Hednesford, Chris Clements and Jamey Osborne – who are both playing at Grimsby now.

"He's very, very similar in every way. He just needs to believe in himself and he can go the same way, I have no doubts about it.

"He's a quality footballer and for a 19-year-old to run the game like that, the others need to look at themselves a little bit."

A player who arrived on the same day as Fitzpatrick is Dan Westwood. The 26-year-old jumped up four divisions from Wolverhampton Sporting, where he found the net 61 times this campaign.

He has came off the bench three times for the Bucks, and would have opened his account had it not been for a fantastic save from Worcester keeper Nathan Vaughan on Saturday.

"You can see he's played at a lower level because he makes the wrong decisions on the ball, and he's rusty so he has got learn that quickly," Smith said.

"In and around the box, he has all the hallmarks of a goalscorer. We've just got to work on the other aspects of his game."

Meanwhile, Telford are hoping to develop a stronger link with Wolves.

They borrowed two Molineux youngsters – Bradley Reid and Ben O'Hanlon – earlier in the season, and the Bucks are also looking to develop their relationship with Shrewsbury Town – who shot-stopper Callum Burton is on loan from – further.

At the fans forum, director Andy Pryce said: "We do ask Wolves for players but sometimes they don't come off.

"We are trying to get a stronger link with Wolves. We have been in discussions with them recently."

Smith added: "We've built up a really good relationship with (Shrewsbury boss) Paul Hurst.

"If we can get them down here for a pre-season friendly, it might fill the ground."
