Dan Westwood keen to learn from AFC Telford striker Lee Hughes
Dan Westwood is loving life at AFC Telford United – and is looking to learn a lot from veteran Lee Hughes as he aims to get off the mark.
The 26-year-old striker has made three substitute appearances for the Bucks since jumping up four divisions from Wolverhampton Sporting, where he scored 61 times this term.
Having had a goal ruled out for offside in the 2-0 win at Stalybridge Celtic, and then an effort from point-blank range superbly kept out in the 1-0 victory against Worcester City, Westwood has showed glimpses of why he was so prolific in the West Midlands Premier and he said: "It's definitely a big step up in intensity.
"I was gutted that goal at Stalybridge was ruled out as I thought I was onside. Then, on Saturday, I think I maybe hit it too well.
"I was a bit gutted as scoring on my home debut, that's what I had been dreaming about the night before.
"It took me a while to get into it against Worcester, having to do more defensively, but I have a lot of confidence in my ability and the goals will come."
On playing alongside ex-West Bromwich Albion striker Hughes, Westwood said: "I have been trying to stay as close as I can to him to pick up as much as I can from him, and then stay busy and lively."
He added: "Playing at the New Bucks Head, in front of a crowd like that, was brilliant. I'm really enjoying it."
