Larry Chambers: AFC Telford won't let up
AFC Telford United assistant boss Larry Chambers has assured supporters the side will not be resting on their laurels during these closing weeks of the season.
The Bucks – who are nine points clear of the National League North drop zone, with five games left to play – head to Boston United tomorrow.
A win at York Street would be Telford's third in succession, and see them leapfrog the hosts to move up to 15th in the table.
"We are going into the game on the back of two wins and the aim is to continue that momentum," said Chambers. "The two wins have given us a boost but the season is not done yet, there's still five games to play and I can assure you that we will not be taking our foot off the gas.
"It's an important part of the season for everybody here. There's players looking to prove they belong here, and a couple we have brought in recently that we want to have more of a look at as well so everybody needs to make sure they are on their toes."
Boston – who will be buoyant following a 2-0 win against Salford City, and then a 0-0 draw with Brackley Town – are now managed by Adam Murray.
The Bucks lost 2-1 to the Pilgrims on November 5 at the New Bucks Head, with Dennis Greene at the helm for that game before leaving the club by mutual consent and being replaced by the former Mansfield Town boss later that month.
Chambers added: "I think we will go into the game feeling good about ourselves, and there is a good team spirit at the moment.
"With Boston, Dennis Greene was there at the start of season but he went and Adam Murray came in, and I think their squad has changed a fair bit since we played them."
Meanwhile, Telford boss Rob Smith and Chambers are hoping Gavin Cowan will continue in his coaching role at the club next season.
The 35-year-old former Shrewsbury Town and Bucks defender – who is also registered as a player for Telford – has been leading drills with the players on match days and in training, since the departure of Steve Wynn earlier in the campaign.
When asked about Cowan at the club's fan forum, Smith said: "We needed a coach. Gav has come in for nothing – he's a very good coach and brings plenty to the table.
"We'll have to chat with him and see how he feels."
