Larry Chambers: AFC Telford form not all down to finances

The Bucks lost 4-2 on home soil to Nuneaton Town yesterday, leaving them six points clear of third-bottom Gainsborough Trinity – and 11 better on goal difference.

However unlikely it may be, dropping down is not out of the question for Telford – who have 68 per cent of shares in the club currently for sale, hoping for a big investor to come in.

Chambers said: "The point at Stockport (on Good Friday), after that I thought we realised we were safe but we wanted to end the season on a high.

"We wanted to put in a good performance for the home fans because it's not been great for them, and again it's been a massive let-down and massive disappointment.

"I don't think this season has been all about the budget. I think the players we have got have underachieved, and they should have done better than what they have done."

The players had been urged to prove their worth in the final run-in and secure their futures at the club for next season, but Chambers said: "I think if people are trying to earn a contract with three games to go, it's a little bit late.

"The players you want to keep, generally, have performed throughout the season and the players that are going to go, you're not going to make your mind up in the last few games.

"I don't see a lot of fight from the players when things don't go our way.

"Against Stockport, everybody put a shift in and didn't make errors – but I didn't see that yesterday."

Telford have a trip to Darlington on Saturday and then host Harrogate Town a week later to close out the campaign.

On whether he knows the budget for next season yet, Chambers added: "I think the plan is to get this season out of the way, and then me and Rob will sit down with (director) Andy Pryce, (vice chairman) Win Pryce and (chairman) Ian Dosser and they will advise us what sort of budget we have got."
