Larry Chambers wants AFC Telford to stay professional
Assistant boss Larry Chambers has warned AFC Telford United there is no room for complacency as they make the long trip to Darlington tomorrow.
The Bucks go to Blackwell Meadows with relegation still a possibility.
It would take two victories for both Gainsborough Trinity and Worcester City, a result for Alfreton Town, two losses for Telford – and a major shift in goal difference – for it to happen and although very unlikely, Chambers has urged the players not to take their foot off the gas.
He wants them to replicate hosts Darlington – who, after being denied entry to the play-offs due to their ground not meeting league standards, have enjoyed two big wins. He said: "The big question after Darlington got ruled out of the play-offs was would they throw the towel in?
"They have done exactly the opposite, beating Alfreton (3-0) and FC United of Manchester (4-2). They have gone about their jobs very professionally.
"We beat them 2-0 at our place earlier in the season but they have been in and around the top five all season – and the table doesn't lie. It's a long trip and they are a good side so we know it will be tough, as is every game at the moment."
Telford have done well at some of the bigger sides this season, picking up draws at the likes of AFC Fylde and Stockport County.
Chambers would love another point at a top side, but admits he does not know which Bucks side will turn up.
"We went away to Stockport and got a draw on Good Friday, and then we followed that up with a poor performance against Nuneaton," he said.
"It's not so much opposition, no disrespect to Darlington, it's about how we set up and how we do. We haven't got any real consistency about is – we can't seem to string a sequence of good results together.
"We made individual errors, unforced errors really, in the last game and you can't plan for them.
"We will go there, and like we always do, we will give it a go."
In terms of team news, Jon Royle (groin) and Dave Hibbert (quad) both trained last night. Elliot Hodge (calf) did not train though and is likely to miss out on Saturday.
"Other than those, I don't think there's any new knocks," added Chambers.
