The 21-year-old is to follow in the footsteps of former AFC Telford favourite and No.1 James Montgomery, who is also to partake in the England and Leicester star’s new venture. Market Drayton goalkeeper Rawlins, who also featured twice for the Bucks at the end of the campaign, was one of 42 players selected from more than 3,500 applicants and will begin the five-day trial period at Manchester City’s Etihad training base on June 5.

The Arleston-based keeper said: “We went to Stocksbridge (Vardy’s ex-club) two years ago and I saw the stand named after him and all the pictures.

“He’s gone up to the top. It’s a chance to learn and hear about their experiences of making it.

“It was a shock to find out and a bit surreal. I’m excited. For previous trials, when it’s just been me, I’ve been more nervous.”

The five-day period will include practice matches watched by scouts from across the continent.

Rawlins was watched by academy reps as Drayton were beaten 4-1 by Stocksbridge last month.

“I’ll put the blame on the defenders – there were some saves for the cameras which helped me” he laughed.
