Larry Chambers delighted to end three-year search as Singh joins AFC Telford
AFC Telford United no.2 Larry Chambers revealed his delight after finally ending a three-year pursuit to sign a 'massively improved' goalkeeper in Jasbir Singh.
The popular shot-stopper, 27, was a high-profile capture for the Bucks last week and has been on the radar of Chambers and boss Rob Smith for a number of years.
Singh departed former club Gloucester City after they were made to switch to the National League South and caught the eye between the sticks for the Tigers, as well as also featuring for Kidderminster Harriers and Solihull Moors.
He became the latest of five new additions to the New Bucks Head this summer, following Shane Sutton, Kieran Dunbar, John Marsden and Curtis Strong.
Chambers said: "Jaz is someone that we've tried to sign for three seasons now both here and with Hednesford Town (former club).
"We were never able to get the move over the line.
"Once we knew Gloucester were in the south we put in a phone call to let him know (of our interest). I think we were one of three of four clubs interested.
"I think Jaz has always liked Telford and enjoyed playing here."
Singh, who is based in Birmingham and a personal trainer, was rumoured to have decided on the Bucks over a return to full-time outfit Kidderminster.
He has been a permanent fixture in the National League North since making his Solihull Moors bow in the early part of the decade and has been hailed as one of the standout goalkeepers at the level.
"He is a keeper who has improved massively," added Chambers.
"We were spoilt with Monty (James Montgomery). Maybe we didn't realise how good he was until he left. It was difficult to fill the void and that's no disrespect to the other goalkeepers.
"He's always done well against us. He's commanding of his area and very, very good with his feet, a modern kind of goalkeeper.
"Jaz is also a bit of a leader and a confident lad."
Local shot-stopper Ash Rawlins is soon to feature in the Jamie Vardy 'V9 Academy', Bucks director and goalkeeping coach Andy Pryce said at last week's fans forum that Telford will continue monitoring the youngster.
Meanwhile, Telford are set for showdown talks with centre-half Paul McCone this week.
