The 26-year-old centre forward jumped up four divisions from Wolverhampton Sporting to figure for the Bucks at the back end of last season.

He was mainly used as a substitute but, following netting more than 60 goals for Sporting in the West Midlands Premier in the same campaign, was grateful to be introduced to the demands of National League North.

After being awarded with fresh terms at the New Bucks Head by boss Rob Smith, Westwood is out to prove his worth and said: “When I first spoke to Rob and (assistant boss) Larry (Chambers), it was always about this season coming.

“It was nice to get a taste of it towards the back end of last season but I don’t think anyone has seen the best of me yet.

“Pre-season is a clean slate for everyone here.

“It’s all about putting in the work, impressing the manager and making sure you get yourself in the team for the first game – and that’s what I am going to work hard to do.”

Westwood reached 100 goals in just 72 games for Sporting, and was targeted by Hednesford Town and Stafford Rangers prior to first signing for Telford.

He insists once he gets his first Bucks goal, they should come about on a consistent basis and said: “Four leagues is a big jump, but it’s not something that has fazed me at all. I’m confident I can impressmy teammates, the manger and the fans and show what I can do.”

“I thrive on getting goals and as soon as I get the first one, I think they should come quite regularly and I’ll be working hard for the team.

“Last season was great for me personally, but now it’s about this season and what I do in the future.”

He added: “I’m 26 now and I want to play at the highest level possible.

“I could have moved a couple of leagues lower or a league below but Telford is where I want to be, playing alongside and against top players at top grounds.

“This is where I want to do it, to prove myself, and I cannot wait to get started again.”
