The 27-year-old defender lifted the title with Solihull Moors last year, and is one of 15 players snapped up by the Bucks so far for the upcoming season.

He was with Moors for more than three years, before spending the second half of last season at Brackley Town.

Telford boss Rob Smith has tried to sign him before, and Gough said: "I spoke to Rob and (assistant boss) Larry (Chambers) and everything we talked about was positive and moving in the right direction, which is what the club needs.

"I know a few people already here at the club and they were all positive and said I would enjoy it here, which is the main thing for any player."

Smith has spoke of bringing in players who are mentally strong – leaders on the pitch, willing to give their all for the cause.

When asked if he can be a leader in the dressing room to help bring good feelings back after a couple of tough seasons for the club, Gough said: "I would say I can definitely be a leader in certain ways.

"I'm not the person who shouts and balls in the dressing room but I get my point across if it's needed.

"I lead on the pitch and encourage, and I am experienced at this level and have always been mentally strong.

"I feel I can definitely help get that positive mentality back in the team and along with some of the other new boys, I know it will be a good environment for us players to thrive and kick the club on."

Prior to joining Moors in 2013, Gough, who is from Derby, played for Gresley and won their player of the year three seasons running,

The left-back also spent time in Derby County's youth ranks as a schoolboy. He made 22 appearances for Moors in the National League last season.

On what fans can expect from him, Gough added: "I would say someone who works hard, wants to play the right way and leads on the pitch with a lot of experience at this level.

"Having won this league, I know what it takes to do well and have a strong season."
