Rob Edwards will look for Wolves assistance

The 34-year-old has been named as the Bucks’ new boss a month after leaving Molineux.

His arrival is set to herald even closer links between the two clubs at a time when Wolves are increasing their investment at New Bucks Head to improve the pitches and dressing rooms.

Edwards, while disappointed to leave Wolves after three seasons as a coach, cannot wait to get his teeth into his new managerial career.

“I’m really excited,” he said. “I had a few opportunities further up the league ladder but nothing came to fruition. When I got the shout a couple of days ago it felt perfect.

“It’s my hometown club and a chance to be a manager and to show what a Rob Edwards team would look like.

“It’s a huge challenge but I’m struggling to see any negatives.

“Of course, I was disappointed to leave Wolves but that’s football and life – people change their jobs.

“And without doing that I would never have had this opportunity.”

Wolves have been affiliated with Telford for the past decade, sending players on loan to the non-league club including Harry Burgoyne and playing their under-23 games at New Bucks Head.

Edwards stated his readiness to make use of that relationship to blood some of Wolves’ talented youngsters on loan.

He said: “There’s always been a link between the clubs anyway, plus I left on good terms and I got on well with everyone there

“I’d be stupid not to use that but it’s got to be of benefit to Telford – I will not be doing anything that doesn’t benefit this club.

“I’ve got close ties to Wolves so it makes sense to tap into that. I know them and have a relationship with them, so if there’s an opportunity to do that, great.

“They’ve done a brilliant job there with the academy, there’s some real talent

“But it’s men’s football in a tough non-league environment, so it wouldn’t be right for just any of them.”
