The much travelled forward has a good scoring record in the National League having netted 19 times for Kidderminster in 2008/2009 and 18 times for Macclesfield in 2012/13 - and recently joined AFC Telford.

Edwards will now be hoping he can replicate that form in the National League North after a brief stint at Kettering Town last season.

Barnes-Homer has also played for Hednesford, Wycombe, Luton, Rochdale, Nuneaton, Forest Green, Cambridge and Tamworth.

And the 31-year-old has a point to prove having struggled for goals since leaving Macclesfield in 2015.

Meanwhile, Edwards says he knows exactly how he wants his Bucks side to play in the 2017/18 campaign.

The former Villa defender honed his coaching skills at Wolves where he was appointed manager of the clubs under-18s side in 2014 before being promoted to first-team coach.

And the 34-year-old said his time at Molineux together with his playing career has given him a clear philosophy on how he wants to play the game.

“I am very clear how I want to play,” he said.

“I’m very clear on my way and what the training sessions are going to be and what I want my team to look like.

“I want every player, in every single position to understand what I want them to do with and without the ball.

“I know exactly what I want do and how I want the players to perform.

“I believe the way I want to do things can work in the National League North as well as in the Football League.

“That is what I believe. I want dominate with the ball but I am not one of those people who just wants to pass for passing sake.

“I want to threaten the opposition’s goal. I want wide players to get one-v-ones. I want crosses into the box.

“But I also want to make sure we win the ball back quickly and play in the opposition half.

“To do that you have to compete. You have to win your second balls and do the normal things you have to do in Britain to be successful.”

Edwards says he will be working hard to get some of his ideas across to the players ahead of the first friendly against Haughmond on Saturday.

“I’m looking forward to the Haughmond game,” he added.

“The games are coming around quick. But that’s why it’s important we get our messages across to the players quickly.”
