Rob Edwards' first league game in charge was a tense one, with the Bootham Crescent side on top for large spells.

Jas Singh made some spectacular saves and Barnes-Homer's effort, on the break in the 44th minute, saw the Bucks beat the bookies' second favourites to win promotion this campaign.

Nine of Telford's starting line-up were making their debuts, including John Marsden, who had a brief loan spell with the club last season, writes Joe Edwards at Bootham Crescent.

Shane Sutton was the captain.

A lot of new faces for the Bucks, who had Singh to thank for a few top-drawer saves early on.

He got down to quickly to save Jon Parkin's low effort from a free-kick, and then showed off his sharp reflexes by keeping out Hamza Bencherif's close-range effort and Amari Morgan-Smith's looping header.

Telford were on the back foot for most of the first period, but took the lead just before the interval.

Marsden broke free of his marker, on the right hand side, and put the ball across the face of goal for Barnes-Homer to poke home from a few yards out. Efficient.

Shortly into the second half, the home fans were getting frustrated and nearly witnessed their side fall two behind soon after the hour mark.

Bucks attacker Marsden did well to win a free-kick, with his effort then looping over the wall and smacking the near post before rebounding out for a goal kick.

York put plenty of crosses and long throw-ins into the box late on but Telford, who had Singh make another superb stop from a free-kick, defended very well to a seal a hard-fought three points.

21 - The hosts go close to taking the lead. Singh denies Hamza Bencherif from close range.

23 - Yet another top-drawer Singh save as he claws away Amari Morgan-Smith's header, which was heading for the top corner.

44 GOAL - Telford go ahead, against the run of play, through Matthew Barnes-Homer. A classic counter-attack move sees Will Marsh feed John Marsden, whose low ball across goal is finished off by the Bucks number nine.

67 - Rob Edwards' side almost double their lead through Marsden, whose free-kick from around 25 yards out smacks the woodwork.

90 - Singh, with his fingertips, manages to put Josh Law's free-kick over the crossbar. Big save.
