Boss Rob Edwards delighted to have Louis McGrory at AFC Telford
AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards has expressed his delight after signing Louis McGrory, adding: “It’s great that we have been able to get the deal done.”
The 20-year-old midfielder is formerly of Forest Green Rovers and had a spell on trial at League Two side Newport County earlier this summer.
The Exiles were thought to be interested in signing him but were unable to complete a deal, and the Bucks then swooped in.
“He has been with Newport over the summer,” said Edwards.
“They were impressed with him but were unable to work out a deal.
“He was brought to our attention and it is great that we have been able to get the deal done.”
The holding midfielder joined Forest Green at the age of 16 after his release from Swindon Town.
He progressed through the Rovers academy and signed a professional deal there in 2015.
McGrory had loan spells at Evesham United, Aldershot Town, Hungerford Town and Gloucester City before being released by the New Lawn club at the end of last season.
In terms of what fans can expect from him, Edwards added: “He is more of a holder.
“He is someone that likes to have a lot of possession, getting on the ball – getting us playing.”
McGrory was set to be involved as Telford took on Bradford Park Avenue at the New Bucks Head today.
Meanwhile, assistant boss Sean Parrish insists he is enjoying life back at Telford.
The former Bucks fan favourite returned to the club this summer to work alongside cousin Edwards on a voluntary basis, also continuing his coaching of young players at Wolves.
He said: “It’s the buzz you get. Obviously academy football is about player development, but a 3pm kick-off is for three points on a match day on Saturday.
“People say that it’s proper football and it means something. Players should get that buzz.
“From when you turn up, warm-up and when kick-off comes you never lose that buzz. People shouldn’t be playing the sport if they don’t get it.”
He added: “Fans will be happy when we win and moan when we lose.
“We understand that, but as long as they see the effort then they’ll come and support.
“We want to give them a squad to be proud of and of course it’s nice to see old faces.”
