Anthony Dwyer insists AFC Telford United will do ‘whatever it takes to get the three points’ at Nuneaton Town tonight.

The centre forward, aged 20, is looking to provide a big response to Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Blyth Spartans.

He scored two goals in the Bucks’ last National League North away game, a 3-0 win at Leamington, and said: “We need to give the staff and the fans a response, and ourselves.

“We need to go Nuneaton, show them what we are about – get in their faces, score goals, defend.

“Whatever it takes to get the three points, that is what we have to do.”

Dwyer was one of Telford’s stand-out performers in Saturday’s loss, proving a constant threat with his sheer pace and willingness to shoot.

His cross set up Elliot Newby’s goal, while strike partner Marcus Dinanga got on the scoresheet.

On his partnership with Dinanga, who is on loan from Burton Albion, Dwyer said: “The more we work on it, the better it is going to get.

“Me and Marcus play the same – like to get in behind, like to take shots. We are both hungry for goals.

“I have set a target of 25, he has set 30. If we can get 55 goals between us, that would be a lovely season.”

Dwyer played with Dinanga for a short period at Evo-Stik Northern Premier club Matlock Town last season.

He also used to play with young Bucks midfielder Joe Fitzpatrick in Mansfield Town’s academy.

And having old friends around has helped Nottingham-based Dwyer settle at Telford after joining this summer.

“To be fair, it was one of them when I heard about Telford in the first place, I just wanted to come out of my comfort zone – out of Nottingham,” he said.

“I wanted to turn over a new leaf and really crack on with my football.

“With Marcus and Joe here, it makes a bit better as well.”

Telford go into tonight’s clash with three wins – all on the road – and five losses to their name.

Nuneaton have won two, drawn two and lost four.

Both of their wins have come at Liberty Way.

Dwyer has urged Telford to make a sharp start, after a first-half horror show – three goals conceded in a wretched eight-minute spell – left them 3-0 down at the interval on Saturday.

“We have to start off well. Starting off slow, it doesn’t do you any favours,” he added.

“We need to try to get out of that habit, work on it and hopefully master it.”
