On-loan AFC Telford defender Connor Johnson issued with suspension after Checkatrade Trophy error
On-loan AFC Telford defender Connor Johnson has been issued with a two-match ban from the FA and Wolves have been fined £1,500 after he was wrongly fielded in the Checkatrade Trophy last season.
The Wolves youngster, who is on loan at the Bucks this season, has been banned after he featured for Wolves in the Checkatrade Trophy last season despite being ineligible.
The defender was booked in the Wolves' Checkatrade Trophy group match against Chesterfield and the second round game against Sunderland, meaning he should have served a one-match ban in the round of 16 clash with Swansea.
However, the youngster did play in that fixture - meaning that the FA have now issued a two-match ban, along with a £1,500 fine to Wolves.
In a club statement, Wolves accepted responsibility for the error:
"With new disciplinary rules for this competition having been introduced at the start of the 2016/17 season, there was a misunderstanding over the suspension which also wasn’t flagged up via the normal FA administration process for first team, Under-23 and Under-18 fixtures." read the statement.
"However, Wolves take full responsibility for the error and accept the punishment."
Johnson will now serve a three match suspension to include an additional match following his sending off for the Bucks against Harrogate last Saturday.
