The visitors had a couple of good chances, but the Bucks were worthy winners of this second qualifying round tie.

Gough got his first Telford goal early in the first half and Murphy, after coming off the bench, netted late on.

It was their first clean sheet at the New Bucks Head this season, and the triumph sees them pocket £4,500 and a place in Monday's third qualifying round draw.

Analysis

Since the club's reformation in 2004, the furthest Telford have gone in the competition is the second round – losing 1-0 at Bristol City in the 2014/15 campaign.

They got to the fifth round in 1984/85 term, where they lost 3-0 against Everton at Goodison Park – a game and run that remains fond in the memory of many Bucks fans.

Rob Edwards made three changes to the side that started the 3-2 National League North victory against Stockport County on Tuesday - their first win on home soil this season.

Aaron Hayden, Louis McGrory and Henry Cowans came in for the suspended Connor Johnson, Jordan Lussey and John Marsden.

They were allowed seven substitutes, instead of the usual five for league games, but only had six on the bench.

Meanwhile, Barwell, who play a tier below in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier, had former Telford men Kyle Perry and Craig Stanley in their starting line-up.

And the visitors, twice, went close to taking an early lead. Just four minutes in, Nigel Julien's left-footed strike smacked the post and Declan Towers shot narrowly wide shortly after.

The Bucks gained a foothold after those openings, though, and went ahead in the 15th minute following a lovely move.

Elliot Newby's cross from the right found Gough, who rifled the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot after Cowans' dummy.

That goal significantly boosted the coincidence of the hosts, while Barwell were pretty quiet.

It seemed a second Telford goal would put paid to the away side's chances, and they very nearly got another before the break.

Jon Royle's attempt deflected off Anthony Dwyer and into the net, but the assistant referee's flag was raised for offside.

The Bucks made a switch for the start of the second period as Murphy replaced Dwyer.

Barwell then had a decent spell of pressure, penning the home side in, and Tom Bates' one-on-one effort was saved by Jas Singh.

Sensing the need to put the game to bed, Edwards made an attacking substitution as Marsden came on for McGrory on the hour mark.

And he quickly flashed the ball wide of the far post, before Marcus Dinanga forced a good stop from Liam Castle and Hayden an even better one from the visitors' goalkeeper.

Telford were dominating, as the away side tired, and doubled their advantage in the 74th minute as Murphy headed home from six yards out.

The Bucks made a final change, bringing on Matthew Barnes-Homer for Dinanga, before the final whistle.
