Marcus Dinanga striving for excellence at AFC Telford

AFC Telford United top goalscorer Marcus Dinanga is refusing to rest on his laurels and insists he needs to be 'more clinical'.

The 20-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Championship side Burton Albion, has six goals in nine National League North games for the Bucks.

He netted both as they lost 3-2 at Chorley on Saturday and is striving for much more – to score at least 30 times this campaign.

"I am doing extras in training, things like that," said Dinanga.

"I need to work on my finishing more, so I can be more clinical in front of goal.

"I know I have wasted a few chances in the last few games.

"Hopefully that won't happen again and I can finish every chance I get – that is the only way I can get to that 30 mark I want."

Dinanga is contracted at Burton, where he bagged five during pre-season, until June of next year – and the club have the the option to extend his deal for another year.

The pacy centre forward spent last term on loan at Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Matlock Town, where he played alongside fellow Telford striker Anthony Dwyer for a while, and scored 34.

And he is now looking to be Rob Edwards' go-to-guy for goals.

"That's what all strikers want to be, I want to be the main striker," he said.

"The only way I can do that is by showing I can score every game and the gaffer can trust me – know that I can deliver every game."

Given the way he is playing, Dinanga is currently one of the first names on the Bucks team sheet.

Dwyer, Jordan Murphy and Matthew Barnes-Homer are the other strikers vying for starting spots.

And those three have managed seven goals between them this season.

Dinanga added: "We have got a strong, what you can call a front four.

"Obviously we all like scoring and in training we are working with each other, link up and things like that.

"I think we are getting better and with each game, you can see that we are all working together.

"One of us will score up front and that's a guarantee."
