Roar us on, says AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards

The clash at the New Bucks Head is a third qualifying round replay.

If the Bucks win, they will take on either Stockport County or FC United of Manchester – both fellow National League North sides – at home on Saturday, October 14.

Edwards believes the Telford faithful have a big part to play, after around 300 were in full voice as they drew 1-1 at Marston Road on Saturday.

“Of course, the players rely on the fans, the fans rely on the players – I have said all along it is a two-way thing,” he said.

“I was pleased they went home on Saturday with something to look forward to, although we wanted to win the game. They were great. They stuck with the lads and kept going and kept believing in them.”

Telford were in a 4-3-3 formation on Saturday, instead of their usual 3-5-2.

And while he did not give away how the Bucks will be set up tonight, Edwards feels the new system showed ‘signs of promise’.

“I tried to give (the forwards) a licence to interchange, I wanted them to try to play together,” he said.

“I think there were signs of promise, although it still needs a bit of work.

"I have always said a formation is just a word, the principles of our play will remain the same.

“It wasn’t all bad, we just need to be better in the box.

“After being 1-0 down, the lads showed some character and some good quality as well.”

One of the players who stood out on Saturday was Elliot Newby.

The former Bolton Wanderers man has been deployed as a wing-back in recent weeks but played in the middle of the park after coming off the bench at Boro.

He is expected to return to the starting line-up tonight.

“I made the change at half-time, not necessarily because we were losing the game but because there was lots of space in those areas,” Edwards added.

“I thought Elliot would be able to have an impact and I think he did.”
