Jordan Gough urges AFC Telford to cook up a storm

The Bucks return to National League North action tomorrow – this year’s Non-League Day – as they host Boston United.

Rob Edwards’ charges are 16th in the table, three points off the play-off places, heading into the clash.

Left-back Gough, aged 27, won the league with Solihull Moors two seasons ago and has urged Telford to implement the qualities of that side.

“There was a group who all knew their roles and responsibilities, who worked hard as a team and ultimately were the best in both boxes – keeping clean sheets and scoring plenty of goals,” he said.

“If we can implement those and become consistent then we can definitely challenge further up the table.”

The Bucks go into tomorrow’s encounter in high spirits after making it through to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup, where they will take on league rivals FC United of Manchester.

Their league record stands at five wins and seven losses – 17 goals scored, 23 conceded – and their last nine results read L-W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L.

Gough is aware of the need to string some positive results together and sees the clash with Boston, who are 18th, and the following league game at rock-bottom North Ferriby United as a real chance to do just that.

“The results have shown we are a bit hit and miss at the moment,” he said. “We are starting to see more of a team, though, who are working together in units now which should help in getting more consistent.”

Gough joined during the summer after spending the back end of the last campaign at Brackley Town. He has made 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring in Telford’s 2-0 win against Barwell in the FA Cup second qualifying round.

He added: “I think we are still gelling as a group but we are heading in the right direction. I believe if we can start being more consistent there is no reason why we cannot get ourselves into the mix for the play-offs.”
