AFC Telford's Henry Cowans starting to show his class

The 21-year-old midfielder is the son of Villa legend Gordon Cowans and joined the Bucks last month.

After a few weeks in and out of the starting line-up, he has began the last three games and impressed with his tenacity and willingness to get on the ball.

"Henry is a really good footballer – a really, really good footballer," said Edwards.

"He's intelligent, very hard-working and he can play."

Cowans failed to make a senior appearance at Villa – where Edwards made his breakthrough as a player before going on to the likes of Wolves and Shrewsbury Town – before his release at the end of last season.

He did enjoy a season-long loan, playing 22 times, at League Two side Stevenage last campaign, though, and the Telford chief feels he could prove to be a big coup.

"He had a great upbringing up at Aston Villa and played 20-odd games in the Football league last year so it wasn't a gamble to bring him in," said Edwards.

"We knew what we were getting, he is a good player."

The Bucks have now won their last four home games.

It has been quite the turnaround for them at the New Bucks Head, after losing their first five games of the term there.

Edwards is looking for Telford, who host FC United of Manchester in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round on Saturday, to be recognised for their strong home form.

He added: "I hope so. We have to commit and play like we have done recently in every single game and limit mistakes as we know we can score.

"I am delighted with the players, they are all working incredibly hard for each other.

"We are in a decent position and now we are looking forward to the FA Cup on the weekend."

Meanwhile, the club's under-18s are in FA Youth Cup third qualifying round action on Monday.

Following wins against Lichfield City and Halesowen Town, the Bucks travel to Sheffield-based Handsworth Parramore (kick-off 7.45pm).
