AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards has ‘only good things to say’ about Jordan Gough following the defender’s departure for Chester.

Left-back Gough, aged 27, has moved up a division to the National League to work under Marcus Bignot, as he did at Solihull Moors.

He made 11 National League North appearances for the Bucks, who head to Gainsborough Trinity tonight.

“I am sorry to see Jordan go,” said Edwards.

“He has done really well for us and he is a great professional. I have got nothing but good things to say about him, he was great.

“Of course, we are disappointed and we didn’t want to lose him but, at the moment, we can’t compete with clubs in the National League.

“We wish him well and we just have to concentrate on the players that we do have now.”

Ryan Wilson recently joined from Matlock Town and will now be Telford’s first-choice left-back.

“I have been very impressed with Ryan – he has been excellent in the games he has played,” said Edwards.

“As I say, we have to concentrate on the players we have.

“Ryan is cup-tied and won’t be able to play at Hereford in the FA Cup in a couple of weeks, but I am not worrying about that now.

“We are worrying about the game tonight at Gainsborough. We can’t look past that.”

Also on the way out of the Bucks – for the time being at least – is striker Matthew Barnes-Homer.

The 31-year-old has been dual-registered with Evo-Stik Northern Premier outfit Halesowen Town.

He struggled for minutes at Telford after netting as they won 1-0 at York City on the opening day of the campaign – due to a hamstring injury and the form of Marcus Dinanga keeping him out once back fit.

“With Barnesy, he has not had the minutes that he would have wanted,” added Edwards.

“It’s something that we have spoke about for a while.

“I heard that he played well for them on Saturday. It’s good for him to go out and get some games – that is what he needs and I could not guarantee him that at the minute.”
