Bob Harris's first game for AFC Telford may turn out to be his last

The 30-year-old Scot made his Bucks bow as they were dumped out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 first round defeat at Hereford on Saturday.

He was filling in for the cup-tied Ryan Wilson and the former Blackpool and Sheffield United player has recently been training with Championship side Preston North End.

When asked if it was a one-game deal, Edwards said: “Probably.”

He added: “We didn’t have a left-back going into the game, we lost one (Jordan Gough) to Chester (a couple of weeks ago) and the other one is cup-tied.

“We needed to bring somebody in, we worked hard on it, and I was delighted with Bob’s performance.

“He has been training up where he lives, with Preston North End. He came in and trained for a couple of days and we managed to get things sorted out very late on.”

Almost 700 Telford supporters made the trip to Edgar Street, which had a total crowd of 4,712.

John Mills scored for the hosts soon after Bucks midfielder Jon Royle picked up a straight red card for a late, high challenge on Bulls winger Pablo Haysham – on the hour mark.

The Cup exit followed victories against Barwell, Stafford Rangers and FC United of Manchester, who Telford take on in National League North on Saturday.

When asked if the loss feels like a big opportunity missed, Edwards said: “Of course it is, I am disappointed.

“We wanted to win the game. If we were playing Blackburn Rovers, it would have still been an opportunity – does not matter who we were playing.

“Hereford are a good team, they are winning – they are used to winning.

“They had a good crowd, and a thank you goes to our fans who came as well – I thought they were magnificent and gave the lads a real applause at the end even though they were very disappointed.

“Thank you to them, I thought they were different class.”

He added: “I think we are getting there, it’s our third defeat in 11 games.

“We are getting there. You can never dominate a game for 90 minutes.”

“Hereford were always going to show a reaction after half-time.

“And the red card changed the game.”
