Rob Edwards angered by AFC Telford's disciplinary record
Rob Edwards has expressed his disappointment over AFC Telford United’s poor disciplinary record, declaring: “We need cool heads.”
The Bucks have picked up four red cards and 25 yellows in 21 games this season. Midfielder Jon Royle is set to serve a three-match suspension after being shown a straight red card in the 1-0 FA Cup loss at Hereford on Saturday, while defender Ross White still has two matches left of his own ban.
Wolves loanees Connor Johnson and Aaron Hayden have also seen red this term.
“No (it is not ideal), not at all. I am disappointed, to be honest,” Edwards said. “Yes, we want people to fight and be combative, especially in that midfield area, but we need cool heads as well. We need people to stay on the pitch.”
Edwards recently admitted his squad is down to the ‘bare bones’.
John Marsden and Jack Rea have both been out with ankle injuries, and Royle will now have a spell on the sidelines. When asked if the indiscipline and injury troubles will force him into making a few signings over the coming weeks, Edwards said: “We have got numbers.
“The lads we are missing are only for a few games as well.
“It would be pointless to start bringing in too many people, you know, people coming back in a few games’ time and then having too many.”
Telford have now gone three games without a win. Despite the Cup exit and that run, Edwards insists morale is high among the squad.
On if his players need picking up ahead of the trip to FC United of Manchester in National League North on Saturday, he said: “I don’t think so, I think we are performing well. Of course we want to turn that into wins. Saturday, it came down to both boxes in the end – we had some good opportunities and did not take them.”
