Max Leonard is a good fit for AFC Telford, says Rob Edwards

The 23-year-old – who the Bucks chief sees as a No.10 – progressed through the youth ranks at Huddersfield Town and has joined from Curzon Ashton.

Leonard said he was 'really excited to join such a big club', and Edwards is looking forward to getting him involved at FC United of Manchester on Saturday.

“He is a player that I like," said the boss. "I saw him during pre-season and then he played against us earlier in the season with Curzon.

“He is the right type to come in here and help us, and add to the quality we have in the squad already.”

Leonard has also played for Frickey Athletic and Glossop North End.

He signed for the Nash – who play alongside the Bucks in National League North – in July and scored four goals in 16 appearances.

Telford are already well-stocked in forward areas as Burton Albion loanee Marcus Dinanga has scored 11 goals.

Anthony Dwyer has chipped in with six, Elliot Newby has netted three times and Jordan Murphy twice.

“I don’t necessarily see him as a number nine, he’s more someone to play in behind the main striker,” said Edwards.

“He hasn’t played that much recently at Curzon, after starting off really well, and that was what we thought would give us a chance of getting the deal done.”

Curzon said in a club statement: “Everyone at Curzon Ashton would like to thank Max for his time in a Nash shirt and wish him the best for the future.”

Nash chief Flanagan posted on social media: “Want to wish @maxy_94 the best of luck with his move to Telford.

“Don’t think we probably saw the best of him but that’s football sometimes.”

Meanwhile, Bucks midfielder Jack Rea has had a steroid injection in his injured ankle.

The 25-year-old has not played since August.

He tweeted yesterday: “Ankle steroid injection this afternoon. Could there finally be light at the end of the tunnel.”
