In the National League North you need players that can mix things up.

The further down the divisions, the more you need to be strong as well as play football.

Rob Edwards has a young side at AFC Telford and they have fallen to three defeats in four.

Sometimes, in that central defence and midfield particularly, you need a burly, experienced six footer to come through and win the ball – by powering people out the way.

I was very lucky, I played alongside people like Nigel Pearson for Town. If we were in midfield he’d come through, put his knee in our back and say in no uncertain terms that we should have got out of the way!

They’re probably after that type of player to dominate a National League North match, they’re worth their weight in gold, particularly from free-kicks and corners.

Saturday’s visitors Alfreton will be a difficult test. They’re a strong, experienced team at this level.
