Rob Edwards resisting Telford calls to drop Jas Singh

Singh, 27, has played every minute of every game for the Bucks this season.

He has faced some criticism from fans following a run of three straight losses though and waiting in the wings is Sheridan Martinez, who signed in the summer but is yet to feature in a competitive fixture for Telford.

On whether Singh, who has been recognised as one of National League North’s best shot-stoppers for the past few years, is enduring a tricky spell, Edwards said: “I don’t think so, I think he has been very good for us all season long.

“There are 10 players in front of him and we need to be able to stop the balls getting there in the first place. It’s the team, we take responsibility together – no-one takes individual blame.

“I think he has been a massive part of our team.”

A 2-1 loss to Alfreton Town at the New Bucks Head on Saturday saw the Bucks fall to 16th in the league table.

They host Tamworth tomorrow and Edwards said: “There is no hiding away from it, we have got to learn quickly and react quickly.

“We’ve got to recover, do the right things between now and then.

“I won’t change, we’ll continue to do what we think are the right things as we believe in them.

“But we have got to learn quickly, in the major points of the game.

“If we do that, then we look a really good team. Formations, tactics, all that does not matter if you don’t work hard, don’t run and don’t do the things we talk about all the time during the week.

“You have to defend set pieces and throw-ins, no matter what you play – it could be 7-2-1 or whatever, you have to keep your ball out of your net and score.”

He added: “We can take some positives, as we have to do, from it.

“It’s not all doom and gloom, as much as the result makes you feel like that.”

Striker Matthew Barnes-Homer was given a surprise start, his first since the 3-1 loss against Brackley Town on August 8.

On how the 31-year-old striker – who provided the assist for Elliot Newby’s goal – fared, Edwards said: “Barnesy has experience and different attributes to others in the team.

“I just felt, with things like set-pieces, we needed that and someone that we could play off. I was pleased (with him).”
