AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards is glad the decision to postpone today’s trip to Spennymoor Town was made well in advance.

The Bucks were set to make the long trip up to County Durham for a National League North clash, but the game was called off yesterday morning due to heavy snowfall there this week.

Spennymoor tweeted a picture of the Brewery Field pitch, which had been left frozen over by the adverse conditions.

A new date for the fixture has yet to be confirmed, and Edwards said: “We trust the people to make the right decisions and, at the end of the day, the pitch was not playable – it was frozen over.

“It avoids fans making a long journey up there for no reason, with it being called off early – and it saves both clubs time and money as well. They have used common sense and now we will focus on the next game.”

Telford’s next scheduled game is at home against York City – who the Bucks beat 1-0 on the opening day of the season – next Saturday, before FA Trophy commitments see Edwards’ side travel to Blyth Spartans on December 16.

“We have to focus on York now, we had a good, hard session yesterday and the lads have been given the weekend off to rest up and recuperate,” said Edwards.

“There is no need to bring them in for training on a Saturday, they’ll have the weekend off and come back in on Monday fresh, preparing for what will be a tough game against York.”

This is the first postponement for the Bucks this season and Edward reckons it will not be the last.

“This will probably happen more and more over the next couple of months,” he added.

“There will probably be a lot of Tuesday night games that we will have to prepare for and adjust to.”
