I’m ready and waiting, says AFC Telford's Matthew Barnes-Homer
AFC Telford United striker Matthew Barnes-Homer is happy to be playing regularly under a dual-registration with Halesowen Town, declaring: “I feel really sharp.”
The 31-year-old has found game time hard to come by with the Bucks recently and played for the Yeltz as they beat Whitby Town 3-1 on Saturday.
He is likely to spend the next few weeks with Halesowen – in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier, a tier below Telford – while training with Rob Edwards’ side, who have a wealth of attacking options such as Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Marcus Dinanga and Anthony Dwyer.
“I felt really good at the weekend,” said Barnes-Homer.
“I feel really good and sharp at the minute and I really enjoyed it as well, which is important.
“We train a lot at Telford and I feel really good. At my age, being able to get 90 minutes under my belt is great – it keeps me sharp.
“It means when the gaffer does need me, I’m ready to come back and go straight into the team – and that is the main thing.”
The well-travelled Barnes-Homer – who has had spells at the likes of Kidderminster Harriers, Luton Town and Macclesfield Town – has scored once for Edwards’ side, grabbing the winner against York City on the opening day of the campaign.
He has made three appearances for Halesowen since penning dual-registration terms in October, playing up front with Shrewsbury Town loanee John McAtee.
“It was a big result on Saturday after struggling for a bit,” added Barnes-Homer.
“There are some good players there and I’m looking to just keep getting minutes under my belt and stay sharp.”
Barnes-Homer has made nine appearances – three starts – for Telford since signing in the summer, after impressing during a spell on trial.
His last appearance for the Bucks was from the start as they lost 2-1 to Alfreton Town at home on November 18.
