AFC Telford midfielder Jack Rea could be sent out on loan

Rea, 25, is the club’s longest-serving current player but has not played since August due to an ankle problem.

The central midfielder has been training with the rest of the squad for the past few weeks after a successful steroid injection in his ankle.

And, having had no setbacks, Edwards says the next step on his road to full recovery may be to have a short spell – seemingly for a month – at another side, to get back up to match speed.

“He still hasn’t had that many training sessions,” said the Bucks chief.

“It’s very difficult as he hasn’t played for quite a long time.

“It might be something where we’re keen to try to get him some football (out on loan) before coming in with ourselves.

“It’s something that we have spoken about, it’s a possibility.”

Rea joined Telford from Bradford Park Avenue in 2015.

The Bucks’ former skipper, he was a regular in the side last season but has only made three appearances this campaign due to his injury.

Once ready to be considered for action again under Edwards, he will be competing against Jordan Lussey, Henry Cowans and Jon Royle for a starting spot in central midfield.

On where Rea will be sent, Edwards insists he would not allow him to go to a National League North rival.

The likely level seems to be the Evo-Stik Northern Premier – a step below – and perhaps somewhere closer to his Manchester home.

Clubs such as Ashton United, Altrincham and Nantwich Town appear to be ideal destinations.

“We wouldn’t do anything at the same level,” added Edwards.

“Myself and Jack have had a chat because, to get him up to speed quicker, he needs football.”

Meanwhile, Telford are hoping to bring in a goalkeeper, expected to be Wolves youngster Jack Ruddy, before Saturday’s game against Curzon Ashton at the New Bucks Head.

Second choice shot-stopper Sheridan Martinez left the club last week to rejoin Solihull Moors, without playing a competitive game for the Bucks.
