Bernard McNally: AFC Telford need more steel in the side

It’s worrying times for AFC Telford United.

Rob Edwards’ side now find themselves in the relegation zone in National League North. And I think everyone can see why they are struggling.

The Bucks have lots of talented young players to choose from. But I’ve always thought the further down the leagues you go, the more of a physical presence you need.

At times in non-league you can bully your way through games. But at the moment I don’t think Telford are able to do that. They are lacking the steel that is required. It’s shame because a player like Ben Bailey – who they decided to let go, would have been perfect.

He would have shored them up in defence. And if they could add more bite in midfield it would give the young players more of a platform to show what they can do. It’s going to be very interesting to see what Rob Edwards decides to do now – and if he does opt to add more experience and steel.
