Rob Edwards: AFC Telford players gave everything

AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards has insisted that if his players perform like they did against Harrogate they will keep their National League North status.

The Bucks fell to a 2-1 defeat to the second placed hosts in North Yorkshire, but they were in the game throughout, and grabbed a late consolation through Jordan Murphy.

The defeat now leaves the side in the bottom two, after they were leapfrogged by Gainsborough Trinity, who won at Alfreton Town.

Despite returning to Shropshire with no points, Edwards believes his players gave him everything, and similar performances for the remainder of the season will pull them away from the relegation zone.

He said: “We were in it for 90 minutes, and it was just two bits of quality with the strike and the header that won it, but we were the better side in the first half.

“The players have given me everything today, and credit to them they got a goal and made a real fist of it.

“I don’t want to stand here saying the game things that we have worked hard and not got points, because I know we have to get points I am well aware of that.

“We have had a hell of a run of games, but if we produce that level of performance, work rate and togetherness for the remaining games, we will be fine.”

In December and January, the Bucks have been up against it, taking on the big boys in the league.

But with the Harrogate test out of the way, they now face a handful of fixtures against the sides in and around them in the bottom six.

Edwards admitted they are still hard games, but he has taken solace from the fact the games against the big sides have gone.

He added: “I’ve just said to the lads now we have had two draws in the last six, against all teams up there, it has been a hard run.

“We believe we can win every game, and today we performed for a full game.

“If we do perform every week we will be fine, and I take some solace now in the fact that yes they will be hard games, but logic says the harder games are out of the way.”
