AFC Telford to look at striking numbers

AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards admits he may have to trim his attacking options following the arrival of Amari Morgan-Smith.

The 28-year-old has signed for the Bucks on a free transfer from National League North rivals York City.

He is one of five strikers Telford now have on their books – the others being ex-Wolves and Shrewsbury man Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Marcus Dinanga, Anthony Dwyer and Jordan Murphy.

And when asked if his arrival means another forward could be leaving the club, Edwards said: “We’ll see where it leaves us. You want as many options as possible but there’s a budget we have to work to.

“We may have a little bit of work to do, we’ll see what happens.”

Ebanks-Blake has scored four goals in seven games for Telford.

Dinanga is their top scorer with 13, Dwyer has six and Murphy three.

Morgan-Smith, who is from Wolverhampton, made 28 appearances for York this season and scored four goals.

He has also played for Luton Town, Macclesfield Town, Kidderminster Harriers, Oldham Athletic and Cheltenham Town.

On what he adds to the Bucks, Edwards said: “We want to have pace and power in the forward areas – and he fits the bill.

“He brings plenty of that, he has a lot of experience and he is local as well.”

Telford made another signing yesterday, bringing in 25-year-old goalkeeper Ben Wilson on loan from Cardiff City until the end of the season.

He played three times for the Bluebirds in the Championship last campaign.

Shortly after the Bucks announced his signing, they confirmed fellow shot-stopper Ryan Schofield’s return to Huddersfield Town.

“We want to have experience between the posts and Ben has played league football. We wish Ryan well. He’ll be a top goalkeeper,” added Edwards.
