AFC Telford boss Rob Edwards hopeful Bob Harris will stick around

Left-back Harris, 30, surprisingly returned to the Bucks fold as they lost 2-1 to Nuneaton Town on Tuesday night.

Prior to that, his last and only game for Telford – who are third bottom in National League North – was the 1-0 FA Cup first-round loss at Hereford on November 4.

Harris had been training with National League side AFC Fylde in the meantime, and Edwards said: “We know Bob’s quality.

“There’s not an issue there, no problem at all. He’ll come in and do a good job for us.

“He needs the games because, when you haven’t played as much, you can be a little bit rusty.

“He’s got bags and bags of experience and quality so he’ll help.

“He’s committed with us, really, now. He wants to be with us until the end of the season and play as many games and possible – and do well for the team.”

Harris has played for Blackpool, Sheffield United and Bristol Rovers in the past.

“I’ve been in touch with him, he’s someone we’ve been monitoring and talking to – and keen to try to get in,” said Edwards.

“He was excellent for that Hereford game as well, gives us really good experience.

"He’s another leader, which is needed in our backline.”

While Edwards believes Harris will stay for the remainder of the campaign, it is possible his tenure could be short.

He is on non-contract terms and fellow defender Niall Maher – who was also non-contract with the Bucks – has left after just one game with the club.

“It’s really frustrating as we worked really hard on getting him in,” said Edwards on Maher coming and going so quickly.

“I thought he did really well on Saturday (in the 1-0 win against FC United of Manchester), but that’s football at this level.”

Harris started against Nuneaton in place of Ryan Wilson – who was left out of the squad.

There have been rumours on social media that Wilson is emigrating to Australia.

Edwards added: “He’s OK. We only really need one defender on the bench and with me bringing Bob in, that’s the reason why (Wilson was not in the squad).

“There’s different people for different games. We’ve been delighted with Ryan.”
