AFC Telford v Spennymoor: Duo back on the goal trail

Both Marcus Dinanga and Jordan Murphy bagged hat-tricks in a 6-0 demolition job on Market Drayton Town in the Shropshire FA Huddersfield Cup on Tuesday, writes Joe Edwards.

Dinanga’s treble took his tally for the campaign to 17, while Murphy’s came following five games without finding the net.

The Bucks are three points from safety ahead of the Spennymoor clash so boss Rob Edwards hopes the duo will have their shooting boots on again.

“I thought they really deserved their goals,” said Edwards.

“They showed great attitude and put in a lot of work.

“They missed a few chances in the first half but they kept plugging away and then got their goals in the second.

“They did their job and, of course, their confidence will have been given a boost from that.

“It’s always nice to have a bit of success as this year has been full of ups and downs.

“When you get a few goals, the confidence does build.

“It’s only one game, though, and it’s about carrying that on. We can’t get carried away.”

Dinanga and Murphy have staked a claim to be involved from the off at the New Bucks Head tomorrow.

Neither have started games in the league as of late, but they are not the only ones to have increased their chances of getting a starting spot. Jon Royle returned in the middle of the park at Greenfields, Ross White was back at right-back and Jas Singh between the sticks.

Edwards insists the game came at a very good time, to lift morale going into a crucial run-in in the league.

“We went there and treated the game very seriously,” he said.

“We wanted to get a few minutes into lads that haven’t played as much recently, and it gives me something to think about. It was a good night and it was something we enjoyed.

“The lads seemed a bit anxious before we got the goals, but once we did it was a a good training exercise for us.”

He added: “Everyone is looking fit and OK for Spennymoor, they’re feeling sharp and ready, so we’re looking forward to it.”
